HAVEN Grant Gives Texas Military Veteran Peace of Mind
“Those replacements have really helped me feel so much safer,” she said. “It definitely gives me a sense of security.”
After serving in the army for four years, including an Iraq deployment, Ms. Costly suffered from back and knee pain and was unable to continue her service. She found the HAVEN program through her mom, a local realtor.
“She asked around for programs for veterans, and thankfully, we found HAVEN,” she said.
HAVEN provides grants to veterans and active-duty, reserve or national guard service members who have been disabled as a result of their military service since August 2, 1990.
Ms. Costly is grateful for the funds.
“It’s made a world of difference. The repairs have given me more confidence as a single woman and first-time homeowner,” she said.
HAVEN grants are provided through FHLB Dallas member institutions. Ms. Costly’s grant was provided through Gulf Coast Bank & Trust. In 2024, FHLB Dallas allocated $300,000 for the HAVEN program and each household may receive up to $20,000 for down payments and closing costs as well as necessary repairs and modifications to their current homes.
